PACE – Pine's Additional Courses to Engagement
Supporting Student Engagement and Success
PACE (Pine's Additional Courses to Engagement) is a strengths-based, trauma-informed learning program designed to support Junior Secondary students (Year 7, 8, and 9 students) at Pine Rivers State High School. The program provides an alternative curriculum aimed at improving student engagement, attendance, and personal development.
PACE offers a safe and supportive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop positive relationships, and engage more with their education. The program focuses on fostering social and emotional wellbeing, motivation, and a sense of direction, while also providing practical learning experiences and community engagement opportunities.
Program Structure
- First term of PACE: Nine lessons per week (replacing three mainstream subjects).
- Second term of PACE: Six lessons per week (replacing two mainstream subjects).
- Wrap-around support: In-class support in the second term of PACE, wellbeing initiatives, and check-ins as students transition back to mainstream classes.
- Experiential learning: Life skills development, focus on the Personal and Social Capabilities, and community excursions and engagement.
Students are nominated for PACE by school staff, including teachers, Heads of Year, Heads of Department, and Guidance Officers. Participation is based on individual student needs, with a focus on improving engagement and learning outcomes.
