Implementation plan for gifted students
Pine Rivers State High School’s statement of purpose, “working together towards all students proudly achieving their personal best”, lies at the heart of our commitment to all our students.
Our vision for students who are gifted is that they feel valued in a learning environment which both challenges and supports them to pursue excellence and develop a passion for lifelong learning. We understand that gifted students are capable of outstanding achievement, and that the learning environment is pivotal in enabling them to demonstrate and develop their abilities. Because giftedness is multifaceted and developmental, comprehensive and on-going strategies are essential to identify and address the needs of gifted students.
We are committed to providing appropriate opportunities and challenges to identify and engage our gifted students.
The Pine Rivers IGNITE Programs are designed to ignite students' passion for learning and expand their future horizons. These programs will provide innovative, intellectually challenging and inspiring learning pathways for those students who excel academically. There are two strands of IGNITE subjects on offer in Year 8/9: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and HASS (Humanities, Arts and Social Science). IGNITE Music is offered in Years 7-8 in 2019 and in Years 7-9 in 2020. Year 7 IGNITE combines both STEM and HASS tasks integrated into core curriculum subjects. See "Curriculum / Excellence programs" for more details.
