Research tasks – where to start?

Be DEFINITE. Follow these steps:

Identify and Define the topic analyse the topic What is the question? Keywords Explore the topic brainstorm topic exploration focus questions Who? What? Where? When? Why? Find the resources subject headings use search strategy Did you check all sources of information? CATALOGUE books vertical file videos pamphlet boxes charts REFERENCE BOOKS dictionaries encyclopaedias NEWSPAPERS PERIODICAL INDEX DATABASES Inspect/select resources skim/scan analyse/interpret bias Locate resources Skim relevant sections & select best resources Identify relevant information Read for understanding Listen/view/question Predict/hypothesise/analyse/compare Verify authority of sources Identify bias Notetake   Use notemaking sheets Be brief!
